Turn on the TV

In the past, it was recommended that we limit our TV viewing. Some families eliminated TV altogether while others limited viewing to a couple of hours per week. This was probably a good idea at that time. TV (with a few exceptions like PBS and Mr. Wizard) was considered a “vast wasteland.”

The situation has changed over the past couple of years, especially in the area of cable TV. Programming on some cable channels has become more relevant and informative—channels like the Discovery Channels (Health, Times), History Channel, National Geographic, Current TV, Science Channel, Military Channel, and Sundance. PBS has great programming, as always.

You still need to be mindful about your TV viewing. But programming—particularly on the channels mentioned above—has become more intelligent and enlightening. Good luck.
