Look Over the Edge

“I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.”

The Vonnegut quotation contains some good advice. It is useful to stay close to the edge. It gives you a good view of what is going on from a different point of view. Looking over the edge can be a little intimidating and very informative. It is like looking over the edge of a cliff: it produces a bit of anxiety for many people and it gives you some very interesting views from unique angles.

The view over the edge allows to you see what is happening around you in a different way. You can see changes and patterns in a timely manner that will permit you to respond rather than react to what is happening.

William McDonough, in this month’s Salon book, Cradle to Cradle, observes that “the fit survive and the fitting-est thrive.” Being on the edge, looking closely, gives you the opportunity to be in the right spot, at the right time, with the fitting-est response.
